The software asset manager is a professional IT role that oversees the organization’s software asset or license management program. This includes designing and managing programs, projects, and tasks for software asset management (SAM) in commercial, government, and nonprofit organizations. This individual sets SAM objectives and develops a shortlist of software publishers to manage for license compliance and ROI. They also partner with functions across the organization to share asset data and support software deployment, help desk operations, vendor management, and purchasing functions.
