Summary
Business continuity is an essential element of enterprise risk management (ERM), although organizationally, the two disciplines are not often connected directly. In a survey of 345 Disaster Recovery Journal subscribers, Forrester found that only 15.5% of business continuity teams reported directly to the risk management function, even though nearly 40% of respondents noted that the two functions work closely together. Upon further analysis, business continuity teams frequently use risk management techniques to prioritize their efforts, and they work closely with the business to understand risk impacts. Forrester recommends that as risk professionals respond to increasing expectations, they seek out their business continuity colleagues to foster greater collaboration and cut costs by reusing common processes and tools.
