In 2021, consumers will experience an emotional dividing line between fear and desire. Affluent consumers will expand and fortify their domestic spaces, while their poorer peers will suffer growing public health, economic, and social challenges. Consumers will begin to draw new boundaries around and ascribe new meaning to their communities. Social divisions and isolation will drive consumers to experiment with new forms of consumption and experience, enabled by augmented, mixed, and virtual reality. In this report, we explore Forrester’s predictions for consumers in 2021.
