Summary

More than two in five US online adults have used or are interested in using automated checkout technologies (e.g., scan and go, smart cart, just walk out) when shopping at a retail store (excluding grocery stores). Consumers can use these technologies to shop, transact, and exit the store without a cashier or kiosk — enhancing the convenience they seek when shopping. One-third of US online adults who haven’t yet used a smart cart in a retail store said they’re interested in doing so. This is a snapshot of Forrester’s consumer data on interest in and adoption of automated checkout technologies in retail stores.
