Consumer Wearables Generate Good Data, But It’s From The Wrong Consumers — And It’s Not Helping Healthcare Providers

Remote monitoring of consumers holds promise for healthcare providers to hold consumers accountable, diagnose and detect conditions, and manage chronic conditions. A minority of US consumers own wearables (21%) because they don’t value the utility. Self-identified athletes are most likely to own wearables today. Doctors need to trust the data if remote monitoring is going to be effective. They have many reasons not to do so today. Both healthcare providers and insurers need to drive adoption of wearables among a broader population to lower the cost of healthcare.
