Summary

For the first time, Forrester evaluated the secure Web sites of four of Canada's largest credit card issuers — Bank of Montreal, CIBC, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), and TD Canada Trust — using our Web Site User Experience and Functionality Benchmark (WSB) methodology. Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) edged past CIBC thanks in part to a recent redesign of its online banking portal, which RBC leverages to offer cardholders broader servicing functionality. Several Canadian banks fail to offer credit-card-only customers the same level of services enjoyed by its other online banking users, relying instead on stripped-down, card-only functionality. Card customers, as a result, are unaware of the many other services available online and may fail to fully embrace the online channel if their card account is the only relationship they have with the bank.
