Summary

Tomorrow's great application development and delivery (AD&D) leaders will be those who focus on delivering constant value and incremental improvement to their businesses. As changes to development processes in general and Agile in particular enable faster development of modern applications, measuring the value that teams deliver is becoming more important. Traditionally, application leaders have managed on the basis of cost, scope, and effort, but these basic measures aren't as useful in an Agile context. This report exposes the metrics that successful Agile teams use to measure their progress and explores why traditional measurement approaches often lead development teams astray. To succeed in a modern application world, AD&D leaders need to understand that a one-size-fits-all approach to metrics does not work; instead, they need to gauge the complexity of their projects, the availability of best practices, and the skill levels of their development teams in order to successfully select the right metrics to measure project progress.
