Summary

The Internet of Things (IoT) holds great potential for transforming customer experiences and improving business operations. In our recent IoT software platforms report, we touched on the forthcoming role that the enterprise software giants — IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP — will play in competing with and complementing existing IoT software platform offerings from specialized vendors. This report dives deeper into the current offerings and recent IoT announcements of the software giants to detail how CIOs should think about and work with them over the next five years. We spell out which of the five IoT software platform capabilities will gradually be subsumed by enterprise software platforms and which ones will remain as core functionality. As a result, CIOs have three action items to develop their IoT implementation and management strategy.
