Summary

Forrester evaluated leading POS software vendors across 137 criteria and found that FUJITSU and NCR are leaders in POS software — thanks to their solutions' ability to cross both enterprise-centric and store operations platform approaches to POS software deployment. Along with FUJITSU and NCR, SAP's Transactionware General Merchandise dominates the store operations platform approach, while IBM, ISS Retail, and PCMS offer competitive solutions in this space. Retalix, though not a store operations platform vendor, also scored well in the store operations approach, thanks to its strengths in addressing the needs of fast-moving consumer goods retailers. In the enterprise-centric approach, Oracle Retail is in a battle with NCR and FUJITSU for the top spot, while Tomax and MATRA Systems offer very strong capabilities, with some unique and best-in-class features. Torex Retail offers products to address both approaches but has some maturing to do within the product set. JDA Software also has work to do with its enterprise-centric solution, but it meets specialty retail's needs — its core target market — well enough for today.
