Unfortunately, there is a very important stakeholder missing from many of these efforts: business executives. In too many cases, we have seen business executives make the mistake of delegating their responsibilities to IT. All firms need to take three basic steps: Put IT on the agenda of board of directors' meetings, establish an IT steering committee to deal with IT matters, and require business sponsorship of key programs.
