Summary

Enterprise architects increasingly use road maps as essential graphics for technology planning and synchronizing business planning with technology strategy. With virtually no option other than the manual construction of road maps, architects are creating significant maintenance burdens for themselves. Is automation an option? Unfortunately, apart from a single vendor — alfabet — enterprise architecture (EA) tool vendors are only just starting to develop their road-mapping capabilities or have announced that their road-mapping functionality will begin with their 2008 releases. No EA niche vendors exist that fit the bill as a tactical solution in the meantime. Forrester recommends that customers press their existing EA tool vendors to deliver road-mapping capabilities — now.
