Availability Is The CIA Triad Element Most Affected By Data Breaches

Summary

The confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA) triad is the cornerstone of a successful security program. However, not all parts of the triad are impacted equally in a data breach. According to Forrester’s Security Survey, 2023, breaches most frequently affect the availability of data, with 76% of decision-makers who experienced a breach citing it was an effect of the breach. Confidentiality is a distant second, with 42% of security decision-makers who experienced a breach in the past 12 months claiming it impacted confidentiality, and 27% cited that the breach affected the integrity of the data.
