Summary
Despite an explosion of new development frameworks, web developers are using what they know. HTML, JavaScript, and CSS remain foundational. Avoid jQuery for all but legacy projects because its use is declining. TypeScript is replacing plain JavaScript — it’s now the default for most frameworks, so seek developers who have TypeScript experience. The top two app frameworks are still the opinionated Angular and less comprehensive React, both of which have stayed modern — but sometimes by introducing breaking changes. React-based Next.js leads other modern frameworks for static site generation, but only slightly. Now is the time for pilots rather than standardization efforts.
