Don't Move Your Apps To The Cloud

It has become conventional wisdom that leveraging cloud services will save you money. But that isn't universally true. To achieve these benefits, especially from cloud platforms (infrastructure-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service), your application must achieve high availability (HA) and performance on its own through its design and configuration. It will also need to activate the economies delivered by these platforms by scaling up and down incrementally, ideally automatically. Most applications running in your data center today don't fit these requirements and thus should not be moved to a cloud platform.
