Enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions are the core of most companies' IT applications. Over the past three decades, ERP went through several innovation cycles and today is considered to be a mature market. Many ERP software vendors have shifted their focus to other faster-growing software applications. However, ERP is still a mission-critical application for corporate IT, and 10 years after Y2K, many companies need to enhance or upgrade their ERP solution again, this time to provide increased business agility and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). Companies are looking for next-generation ERP solutions that have new capabilities and are easy to use and deploy. ERP vendors need to enhance their solutions based on new open architectures to meet increasing market requirements, secure their market position, and unlock further ERP market potential.
