HYDRASIGHTS 2008: Remote Access and Mobility

Jan 07, 2008

Summary

Organisations will increasingly implement more comprehensive and functionally rich mobile solutions in response to the changing nature of work and the workforce (i.e., more complex employee/supplier relationships, more use of contracted labour, more distributed and geographically dispersed workforces). Remote access (traditionally seen as either remote office or home office) and mobility (more often associated with access from no fixed location or specific device) will finally begin to converge due to the increasing overlap of access technologies (e.g., extranets, VPNs). By 2010, pressure from executive management and "power users" will drive the need to go beyond remote desktop/laptop access and simple mobile email/messaging toward full access to information and applications via enhanced smartphone capabilities. By this time, leading Asia Pacific organisations will have "opened up" at least 20% of their IT systems and information via remote access and mobility solutions.
