Summary
Organizations should catalog the capabilities of each product within the offering portfolio. This will determine how well portfolio-level capabilities are being supported by the offerings and identify any gaps. The description of capabilities should be informed by how customers are currently using the offerings and identified through techniques such as customer interviews and observational research. Product portfolio managers should regularly maintain the product capabilities catalog to help with activities (e.g., verifying in-market portfolio coverage, portfolio optimization, portfolio rationalization). In this report, we provide a template and best practices for identifying and cataloging product capabilities.
