More CISOs Reported To CEOs Than Any Other Role In 2023

Summary

For the second year running, the CEO is the most common leadership position that CISOs report to. This cements the CISO as a true member of the executive leadership team, eliminating the traditional barriers that existed when the role reported through IT. Forrester’s Security Survey, 2023, shows that CISOs are far more likely to report directly to the CEO or board than any other role. Security leaders should continue to push to report directly to the CEO, given its benefit to both achieving the organization’s strategic objectives as well as the culture of the security team. This is a snapshot of Forrester’s 2023 data on CISO reporting structures.
