Summary

For CIOs, understanding trends in the broader tech market is useful, but even more useful is information on trends for companies of their size and in their industry. With IT consumerization or bring-your-own-technology (BYOT) shifting at least some tech buying decisions from businesses to individual employees, trends in the consumer tech market are now gaining importance for CIOs. So this report dissects the US tech market into categories of tech buyers, and it examines the mix and growth of the US tech market by consumer buyers, small and medium-size businesses (SMBs), enterprises of different sizes, and governments, as well as by industry and company size. The key findings are that SMBs have been growing their tech purchases faster than other categories of buyers through 2012, but growth in enterprise, and especially consumer, spending will start to catch up in 2013.
