As projects get more complex and teams become larger and more dependent on each other, it’s important to ensure that the responsibilities of various roles remain distinct. Due to confusion about the difference between product and project management, or a lack of dedicated project management resources, product managers often end up taking on project management responsibilities. In this report, we define the product, project, and program management disciplines, how their responsibilities differ, and how they are essential to an effective innovation and product lifecycle process.
