Avaya's historical leadership in business voice communications is helping drive its business forward into the next century with unified communications (UC) and collaboration offerings. Avaya is a pure-play enterprise communications company, having been spun off from Lucent late in 2000. Avaya has innovated in unified communications, pushing the value of communications when integrated with business processes, and it is embarking on a program to codify and bundle solutions for enterprise roles (such as teleworkers, road warriors, and small-office employees) and verticals (such as financial services, manufacturing, and hospitality). Avaya faces challenges remaining relevant to business buyers in the future as software solutions offering collaboration capabilities become the core value that those buyers seek.
