Summary

TikTok’s surge in popularity over the past three years has earned it a top spot as the most used “social media” platform among US teens. Despite experiencing a slight decrease in share of weekly users from 2022, TikTok surpassed YouTube for the first time, according to Forrester’s youth data from 2019 through 2023. This, in part, is because YouTube saw a 3-point year-over-year drop in weekly usage — now at 66% among US teens. Other platforms that saw varying degrees of growth with this cohort in 2023 are Facebook (+9 points), Snapchat (+1 point), and Instagram (+2 points). This is a snapshot of Forrester’s data on US online youths’ weekly usage of popular social media platforms.
