Summary

Early in 2011, Forrester made a series of predictions about the future of cloud computing for that year. With 2012 now upon us, it's time to evaluate last year's predictions and introduce new prognostications. In 2012, Forrester predicts that cloud computing will move out of the shadows and become a mainstream technology. This means big changes in the test and development process, business intelligence, and corporate governance. CIOs need to look beyond their IT department and go even further — beyond the four walls of their corporate headquarters in order to make their cloud strategy a success. What happened to cloud in 2011 has paved the way for both improvement and regression in 2012. This report is an update to "2012 Top IaaS Cloud Predictions For I&O Leaders" originally published on February 3, 2012. This report was redesigned to help CIOs create a road map for their cloud computing initiatives. Most importantly, this report outlines what you as a business leader must do and prepare for to make this leap to cloud successful.
