Summary

Unlike custom apps, packaged apps don't require extensive requirements gathering. In fact, application development and delivery (AD&D) teams only usually gather "requirements" in the conference room pilot phase when they set parameters to model the policies that the steering committee plans to institutionalize. But delivery of packaged apps doesn't end when they go live. The rate of business and technology change means that customer-facing roles in particular are constantly clamoring for new reports and dashboards — and once they have them on their desktops, they want them on their mobile devices too. But enterprise apps by their nature deliver highly scalable, bulletproof support to enterprise processes like order-to-cash and record-to-report that span multiple business units and functions. This report describes why firms apply the Agile methodology to the delivery and upgrade processes for packaged enterprise apps like enterprise resource planning (ERP).
