Summary

When building their green IT strategy, Forrester's IT infrastructure and operations (I&O) clients look for insight from multiple sources — including their peers. Forrester analyzed 146 green IT-related client inquiries over the past year and found that approximately 60% of these inquiries focused on planning green IT, with the remaining 40% related to justifying green IT investments and selecting technology and services. To deliver financial and environmental results from green IT, Forrester recommends improving planning, justification, and selection processes. In the planning phase, perform a comprehensive maturity assessment. In the justification phase, develop procurement, operational, and end-of-life metrics. And in the selection phase, invest in technologies based on maturity assessment findings combined with people, process, and policy improvements.
