Summary

Understanding the performance of a business service starts with monitoring at the end user level, a trend that software-as-a-service (SaaS) and other forms of cloud computing are reinforcing. But until recently, IT infrastructure and operations (I&O) professionals hadn't recognized the value of end user experience monitoring. Although vendors still focus on application performance management, their attention is diverting to end user activities at the PC and mobile device level; recent mergers and acquisitions and new product announcements confirm this trend. This is a necessary transition, since client devices represent nearly 40% of the infrastructure budget. To help I&O leaders take advantage of this treasure trove of information, this report looks closely at how recent product evolutions can help I&O deliver better service quality through improved control of the end user environment.
