Summary

Consumers don't achieve successful health outcomes by simply using apps to track what they eat, getting on a scale every day, or tracking their steps. Successful apps use engagement mechanics such as rewards, competition, coaching, community, and gamification to motivate and help consumers. We've updated our research from 2014 on the business opportunities associated with mobile health (mHealth) to show the current state of in-app mechanics for wearables and mobile apps.
