This document provides vendor strategists with an overview of IT usage in the insurance industry in Asia Pacific. Based on interviews with senior executives in charge of Asia Pacific operations at leading IT solution providers, as well as with system integrators and other software providers, this research was conducted from the end of 2007 to the beginning of 2008. Moreover, 106 CIOs from both large and mid-sized insurance companies in ANZ, China, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore were interviewed. This report highlights 10 key findings, including naming sales management as the top strategic focus area for insurance companies, revealing that a significant number of insurers give preference to local IT vendors, and indicating that a lack of skilled labor is the main IT pain point among respondents. This document also provides a breakdown of insurance industry IT spending by segment, and overviews the competitive landscape that includes vendors such as IBM, HP, SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft.
