Product managers allocate considerable resources to enhancing existing offerings, so they must be able to measure the success of these enhancements. Metrics used to assess product success include product usage, cost reduction, deal impact, product satisfaction, and retention. Once an enhancement is selected for development (see The Product Enhancement Prioritization Framework), the product manager must select metrics to gauge its success. The right metrics enable product managers to demonstrate the value of their work and realize positive ROI. In this report, we describe options for product enhancement success metrics, which should be tied to the goals of the enhancement.
