Two-thirds of firms are increasing their spending on emerging technology, creating the potential for hype and fear of missing out. Ten emerging technologies should be on the list of every client. We organize them according to when most clients should expect significant positive return on investment (ROI). Six technologies will create significant ROI starting today or over the next four years: cloud native computing, natural language processing (NLP), edge intelligence, explainable AI, and privacy preserving technologies. Four frontier technologies will not generate positive returns for most clients for five or more years: extended reality, TuringBots, Web3, and Zero Trust edge.
