“Supplier value management” is Forrester’s new label for software that supports business processes for sourcing, contracting, buying, and managing supplier relationships — what we used to call ePurchasing. We chose this label to emphasize the strategic importance of suppliers to business. Contract lifecycle management (CLM) software is a key segment of SVM but also supports sell-side contracts.
Key takeaways:
- Learn why supplier value management (SVM) is the right label for buy-side software and why we expanded the definition to include travel and entertainment (T&E) expense management software.
- While spending on SVM software will weaken in 2020, the slowing of growth to around 0% will not be as bad as the 6% to 8% fall in overall software spending, due to the value SVM delivers to companies.
- CLM and some other categories of SVM, such as spend analytics and supplier risk and performance management, will grow, but other categories, such as business network services, services procurement, and T&E expense management, will see declines in purchases. Sourcing, goods procurement, and AP invoice automation will be flat.
- Specialist solutions will continue to hold a significant share of the overall SVM market as well as in individual products.
