Google tops Forrester’s new ranking of digital platforms based on mobility, living-room entertainment, wearables, in-car and on-the-go utility, environmental sensing, communications insight, personal coaching, and human assistance. James L. McQuivey, Ph.D., author of Digital Disruption and the report, expects the company to double-down on Glass and other wearables and focus on in-home sensors, such as Nest.

While these companies have made strides, they do not have all the pieces needed to be a digital platform. According to McQuivey, they must create consumer connection and look beyond the golden handcuffs of network services.
