I’ve been a long-time admirer of Landmark Communications, a highly disciplined media mini-conglomerate. It appears that it’s breaking itself up, and selling off the Weather Channel and its local newspaper and TV assets. I was a fan of Landmark’s “in-market scale” concept, i.e., owning multiple media in a single local market, but most of the excitement will be about Weather, of course. I’m also probably a little nostalgic — while Landmark doesn’t own my hometown paper, it’s nearby.
