What Is An Intelligent Healthcare Organization (IHO)?

During the next five to 10 years, healthcare will undergo another evolution. Analytics and artificial intelligence will permeate healthcare organizations well beyond singular use cases. They will be embedded and scaled into clinical workflows and operations, drastically impacting care delivery and business outcomes. Forrester defines an intelligent healthcare organization as follows:

An intelligent healthcare organization (IHO) perpetually captures, transforms, and delivers data at scale, creating and seamlessly disseminating clinical intelligence and maximizing clinical workflows, operations, and the experience of employees and consumers. IHOs will be one connected system, as opposed to multiple connected systems, that empowers engagement at all levels.

How Will This Get Done?

High-quality, reliable clinical data applied strategically across the enterprise will be a key enabler of the IHO. It will also require completely modernized technology across all clinical workflows, designed in a way that can keep pace with the ever-changing needs of the business.

What Will The Impact Be?

It is our view that an IHO will combine value-based care and a high-performance IT strategy to drive sustainability, change, and growth. IHOs will quickly adjust their clinical operations to the market and be responsive to regulatory changes and consumer preferences. Superior digital experiences will amplify employees’ productivity and foster collaboration. Consumers will be empowered and finally feel like they are in control of healthcare, because in an intelligent healthcare organization, everyone is more intelligent.
