This Thursday, Microsoft’s dual-screen Surface Duo arrived in stores in the US. VP and Principal Analyst J.P. Gownder has been using the device first-hand and is able to share further comments. Here is a first quick take from J.P.:

Microsoft’s Surface Duo represents a bold move: Back into phones after the Nokia fiasco; into Android phones despite its rivalry with Google; and into a brand-new form factor. It’s a big bet: Other phone makers are going after the foldable space, but Microsoft’s concept is that two screens are better than one.

At stake? Can Microsoft Surface revolutionize phones the way it has the PC? Can Microsoft crack into the tough world of smartphone profits, which accrue almost entirely to Apple and Samsung?
