Companies are racing to put AI into marketing and go-to-market (GTM) processes, expecting faster analysis, richer customer intelligence, greater productivity, and ultimately better decisions. Yet there is a challenge hiding inside those ambitions: AI can accelerate the flow of insights much faster than an organization can accelerate its ability to act on them. That matters, because insights have a shelf life: A shift in buyer behavior, an emerging customer need, a change in campaign performance, or a competitive signal becomes less valuable when it takes weeks to travel through the organization and influence a decision.

Many businesses already have an insights-to-impact gap. Forrester data shows that among B2B data and analytics decision-makers, 33% cite a lack of trust in data sources as a barrier to acting on insights; 29% cite a lack of trust in analysis; and 28% point to a lack of skills to interpret insights. My new report, Close The Gap Between Insights And Impact, also highlights the growing importance of data literacy, AI fluency, and the ability to interpret insights. AI puts additional pressure on all of these. It can give organizations more signals, more analysis, and more recommendations at greater speed. For a business that already struggles to turn insights into action, AI could widen the gap rather than close it.

Consider what this means for a GTM organization: AI detects a shift in buyer behavior, and marketing sees the signal first; sales continues with the existing conversation, customer success has additional evidence from existing customers, and product teams have relevant usage data. Everyone holds a piece of the picture, yet nobody changes course quickly enough. The business had the insight and still missed the opportunity.

Our research highlights the importance of sharing customer, market, and performance knowledge across marketing, sales, product, and customer success to improve decisions and coordinated execution. As AI increases the flow of information, that ability becomes even more consequential.  GTM leaders need to help their organizations turn AI insights into action by identifying which signals matter, challenging existing assumptions, making decisions, coordinating action, and determining whether the action produced the intended customer and business outcome

Turn AI Insights Into Action Faster

This brings a different question into the AI conversation. Companies understandably ask where to deploy AI and which use cases can create value. Marketing and GTM leaders should add another question: How much faster can our business turn a new signal into a better customer or commercial decision? The answer depends on what happens across the entire loop, from signal to interpretation, decision, action, outcome, and adaptation.

The loop cannot stop with execution. Teams need to understand whether a changed message improves engagement, whether a different sales approach advances an opportunity, or whether an experiment changes customer behavior. Those outcomes become evidence for the next decision. The faster an organization can move through this cycle while preserving sound judgment, the greater its ability to respond while the relevant insights still matter.

Earlier Forrester research explored practices that help businesses continuously learn and adapt. The new report extends that thinking by connecting customer, market, and performance insights more directly with decisions, actions, and measurable business impact. This may become one of the less obvious dividing lines in the AI race.

Access to AI will spread rapidly; so will the ability to generate and analyze enormous amounts of information. Sustainable advantage will increasingly depend on what happens next: whether businesses can understand what matters, mobilize the right parts of the GTM organization, learn from the outcome, and continuously improve the next decision.

AI is compressing the time between signal and opportunity — businesses need to compress the time between uncovering insights and deriving impact from them. Read Close The Gap Between Insights And Impact to explore how organizations can turn customer, market, and performance insights into action and measurable business outcomes.
