As organizations deploy AI agents across business processes, security remains more critical than ever. Security controls protect data, identities, applications, and infrastructure. They reduce vulnerabilities and help organizations operate safely at scale.

But autonomy raises a question that security controls alone can’t answer: Will these systems act in line with your organization’s objectives, risk appetite, regulatory obligations, and ethical expectations? That’s where responsible AI and security meet.

Responsible AI provides the governance, controls, and oversight mechanisms that move organizations from secure AI to trusted AI. Explainability helps teams understand how and why a system reached an outcome. Accountability establishes clear ownership and keeps systems aligned with organizational goals, values, and intent. Fairness and human oversight keep decisions equitable and ensure that people always have a path to redress. Together, these are the outcomes that a sound approach to responsible AI delivers.

This approach is at the heart of my newly published report, Adopt Forrester’s Responsible AI Framework. The report introduces a six-domain framework to help organizations operationalize responsible AI. It also makes the case that responsible AI must evolve alongside the technology it governs. When AI takes action, development and deployment checkpoints are no longer enough. Responsible AI must become continuous, adaptive, and capable of managing emerging risks in real time.

I’ll explore these themes in my keynote, “Forge The Trusted Future,” at Forrester’s Security & Risk Forum, taking place November 9–10, 2026 in Washington, DC.
