Predictions 2027: Humans Reclaim Content Creation; Machines Dominate Content Consumption
In 2027, humans will create more authentic content to help brands balance AI visibility with the risks of malicious, misleading content and consumer mistrust. AI visibility is a must. According to Forrester’s Marketing Survey, 2026, executives or boards are questioning 49% of respondents about how their brand or content is represented in AI-powered search results and genAI tools. Machines need structured, authoritative content that they can retrieve, train upon, and turn into answers. Yet some 32% of AI decision-makers are experiencing an increase in AI-generated malicious content that is already affecting their brand. And given that only 18% of US online adults trust information provided by AI, consumers increasingly demand transparency and distrust AI-generated experiences.
For B2B and B2C leaders, the introduction of machine audiences and the tension that creates with human audiences will change content and creative lifespan, economics, technology, and efficacy. The future of content will be characterized by humans creating what matters and machines amplifying content at scale. Forrester’s predictions are designed to help marketing and digital leaders develop effective content, creative, and technology strategies for 2027. We predict:
- Human-generated content will become a top priority again for 50% of brands. Consumers and business buyers will look for proof of real expertise, experience, and evidence. In 2026, 39% of frontline marketing decision-makers already optimize the balance of AI-assisted content generation with human expertise to ensure that authentic insights, originality, and trust are being built on answer engines. In 2027, this will continue to accelerate, with social content acting as a public validation layer where experts, creators, and customers scrutinize brand claims. And as AI disclosure and content provenance become more prominent, marketers will have greater reason to put recognizable people behind important claims. Digital leaders must build an attributable evidence base that gives both people and AI systems something worth trusting.
- The lifespan of content created for influence will shrink to 30 days. AI-mediated discovery, engagement, and commerce will accelerate content turnover. Brands will move from campaign-centric planning toward continuous content operations, where freshness will matter along with reach. As content abundance becomes the norm, the bigger challenge will shift from asset creation to governance. In 2026, only 30% of B2B marketing decision-makers indicated that adapting content workflows for speed, quality, and governance was going to be a point of focus in the next 12 months. Digital teams will need to continually identify outdated information, refresh authoritative content, and design processes and technology to manage faster content production.
- Agentic AI will trigger the consolidation of one-third of content point solutions. As brands need both human-created and machine-readable content, agentic AI will become a new interface and investment category across web content technology stacks. Agents that work across systems of record will put pressure on standalone point solutions and simultaneously weaken the business case for lengthy platform migrations. With 39% of B2C marketing decision-makers increasing tech spending by 5% or more, the investments will go toward developing systems of engagement and action via agentic content systems. Digital content and creative leaders should begin designing agentic interfaces and workflows that work across existing web content management tech solutions to improve content operations, rather than committing to expensive content or creative asset migration projects.
